Molly Tye Named Academic Coordinator at Penn State

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman University Director of Athletics Lynn W. Thompson has announced the resignation of Molly Tye from her current position within the B-CU Department of Athletics. Tye is set to be announced as the Assistant Director for Academic Support at Penn State University next week.

At Penn State, Tye will work directly with the Nittany Lions football program, while also serving as student-athlete support service personnel and academic counselor. Penn State Football has immediate ties to Bethune-Cookman in the form of PSU Assistant Head Coach and Co-Defensive Coordinator Brent Pry being the son of B-CU Offensive Coordinator Jim Pry.

“Molly certainly made her mark here at Bethune-Cookman University working with our student-athletes, and it showed with our APR and GPA results,” stated Thompson. “She made sure our student-athletes won in the classroom, as well as supporting them on the playing surface. We will miss her and wish her nothing but the best in her future career at Penn State University. However, we hope that she always remains a B-CU fan because she'll always be a Wildcat to the B-CU family.”

Tye has spent the previous three years with the B-CU Department of Athletics, serving as the Assistant Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Support. She directly oversaw the academic support of the Wildcats football team, helping them maintain the highest APR score in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference during her tenure. Due to her academic services, the B-CU football program received a national award for academic excellence in 2011-12.

Tye is a certified member of the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics (N4A) and has significant knowledge of the NCAA Academic Performance Program and specific athletic advisement trends and techniques. She is also a member of the Professional Association of Athlete Development Specialists. She received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas and her Master's from Howard University, both in Social Work.
