DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - -Ricky Johnson scored 17 points in Bethune-Cookman's 79-55 loss to Norfolk State Monday night in Moore Gym.
D'Shon Taylor scored 25 as the visiting Spartans (11-8,4-0) remained in a three-way tie along with Hampton and North Carolina Central for the early conference lead. Jeffrey Short added 18 and RaShid Gaston 17.

The Wildcats (4-13,0-3) jumped out to an early 18-10 lead on the strength of two Johnson three-pointers. Norfolk State quickly reversed the game with a 12-0 run and opened up a 41-30 halftime lead.
Bethune-Cookman closed to 45-36 on a Johnson three-pointer with 16:02 remaining, but four straight missed free throws by the Wildcats allowed the Spartans to keep the lead around ten points before the visitors pulled away.
Quintin Brewer had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Wildcats, while Mikel Trapp added nine.
The Wildcats travel to Baltimore to face Coppin State Saturday afternoon.
NOTES: Trapp moved into sixth on the all-time 3FG lead with 154 ... Norfolk State has won the last three meetings ... Johnson's 17 was a season high ... Brewer was in double figures the third straight game and Johnson the second.
