STATESBORO, Ga. – The Bethune-Cookman doubles tandem of Matea Roki and Hilary Hanton won two matches to advance to their Flight final at the Georgia Southern Invitational.
They posted 8-5 victories over Paige Christian and Shannon Wagner of Georgia Southern 8-5 and Daniella Arcilla/Anastasia Castro and will face Eastern Tennessee's Melissa Esguerra/JadeVicarrs Saturday.
Roki also won her singles match Friday, downing Savannah College of Art Design's Paige Murdock 6-3, 6-1. Mina Matsuba registered B-CU's other victory of the day with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph over Elizabeth Geronimo of Savannah State. Both Roki and Matsuba have flight semifinals Saturday.
In other action Friday, Alejandra Vidal fell in three sets to Prebysterian' Tracy Johnson, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 while the doubles tandem of Vidal/Matsuba dropped an 8-5 loss to Georgia State's Lara Vovk and Tarani Kamoe, a doubles team currently ranked 33rd in the nation. Vidal/Matsuba won a consolation match later in the day.
