Box Score

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Mario Moody and Randy Holmes both scored 14 points and Bethune-Cookman beat Trinity Baptist  78-49 Thursday night.

Moody also had 11 rebounds and two steals. Holmes, in a career-high night, was 4 of 10 from the field with four rebounds, three steals, and three assists. Ricky Johnson and Quinton Forrest each had 12 and Jordan Potts 11 as the Wildcats (3 – 4) snapped a four-game losing streak.

The Wildcats took advantage of 22 turnovers by the Eagles, which led to 35 points.

Bethune-Cookman struggled from the field early, missing 14 of its first 16 shots but still managed an early 8-2 lead. The Wildcats would shoot 67 percent from the field in the final 15 minutes of the half and took a 40-23 halftime lead, closing the half on an 8-0 run.

Trinity Baptist got as close as 47-34, but a 9-0 Wildcat run pushed the B-CU lead to 56-34 on a Forrest lay-up with 12:59 left.

Marquel Perry was the leading scorer for the Eagles (2- 7) with 19 points. Perry finished 6 of 9 from behind the arch.

B-CU hosts South Carolina State in its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener Monday.

HEAD COACH GRAVELLE CRAIG

“We got back to winning and sharing the ball. We weren't stagnant and were moving the ball.”

“I want 14-15 assists a game minimum from this team. “We're a better team when we do that. We changed the offense, put in more movement and swinging the ball side to side.

“That's how Randy Holmes should play. Some  junior college need time to make the adjustment to Division I. He's done a good job adjusting to how players are playing him.

“We worked on balance… we're not going to win with one guy. It's easy to stop two guys. Share the ball, you're a better team.”

RANDY HOLMES

“We moved the ball well. I had a nice rhythm and hit some shots.”

“We were making the extra pass and rebounding.”

NOTES: This was Moody's second double-double of the season … B-CU has now won five straight at home … The Wildcats hit their first 14 free throw attempts … Marquel Ingram had his first career start.
