ORLANDO – Bethune-Cookman's comeback efforts against UConn fell short as the Lady Cats dropped a 4-3 decision to the Huskies Saturday afternoon.
UConn took the doubles points and the two of the first three singles matches to take a 3-1 lead. However, Adel Musina and Alejandra Vidal won their respective matches to tie it up.
The decisive match was between Chinatsu Kajiwara and UConn's Emma Alderman at No. 2 singles.
Down 5-3 in the third set, Kajiwara won three straight games to take a 6-5 lead, but was unable to hold her serve and Alderman prevailed 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
Gaby Chinchilla took two matches Saturday, winning her No. 4 singles match and combining with Kajiwara for a No. 2 doubles win.
“Outstanding performance from Gaby today,” said B-CU Head Coach Tim Pleasant. “She is really coming through as a senior leader for the team.”
The Lady Cats (1-3) travel to Stetson Wednesday.
