Lady Wildcat Tennis Takes Two On Sunday

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Bethune-Cookman gave its coach a victory over his alma mater and a winning record for the season as the Lady Wildcats downed Eastern Kentucky 5-2 and Hampton 7-0 Sunday at City Island Tennis Center.

The victories over EKU -- Head Coach Tim Pleasant's alma mater -- and Hampton extended Bethune-Cookman's winning streak to three and improved the Lady Wildcats to 6-5 for the year.

Gaby Chinchilla, Maria Garoz-Moreno and Mina Matsuba each won all four of their singles and doubles matches on the day.

Garoz-Moreno has now won five straight singles matches and is undefeated in her last six doubles matches (one was unfinished.)

“Eastern Kentucky has won the Ohio Valley Conference three of the past four years,” Pleasant said. “We actually played solid all around the board.  Mina finally got rolling with a win against a girl who was 15-3 on the year so far.  That was a huge win for Mina and an overall bigger win by beating a conference champion.”

Bethune-Cookman hosts Northern Illinois and Jackson State Wednesday
