Cheerleaders on Showcase at NCA Nationals

Cheerleaders on Showcase at NCA Nationals

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bethune-Cookman cheerleading team competed in its first-ever National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) national event on Thursday, April 9, in Daytona Beach, Florida. The event was held at the band shell on the beach at Ocean Walk in Daytona Beach, Florida.

For co-head coaches John Woodson and Becky Woodson, the NCA Nationals is the culmination of hard work put into the program over the past two years. This is the first time in Bethune-Cookman history that a cheerleading team has been invited to participate in the NCA Nationals.

The Wildcats were one of more than 25 schools in this year's event across several categories. Not to mention, B-CU is the only school from the host city Daytona Beach in the annual event.

Also competing in this year's NCA Nationals were squads from all across the nation including Kent State, Georgia Southern, Missouri, Wright State, Texas-San Antonio, SMU, UTEP, Middle Tennessee State, Wyoming, Houston, UMKC, Northern Colorado, Michigan, Jacksonville State and Iowa State.

Fellow Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) institution Morgan State also competed in the NCA Nationals, representing the MEAC as the annual cheerleading champions held at this year's MEAC Basketball Tournament in Norfolk, Virginia.

The Wildcats will be back in action on Friday, April 10, at 8:30 a.m. They will compete in the next round of the tournament at The Ocean Center on beachside in Dayton Beach.
