ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A one-rule decision during semifinal action of the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship sent Bethune-Cookman softball into the elimination bracket after falling 2-1 to cross-state rivals Florida A&M Friday in Ormond Beach, Florida.
After going scoreless through two innings the Rattlers added an unearned run to the bored in the third, opening up the 1-0 lead.
Rookie Bryanna Campos reached first on a single in the fifth, before scoring from second when fellow freshman Mariah Davis' grounder to second base was muffed by the FAMU first baseman.
With the score knotted at one Wildcat pitcher Sabrina Anguiano found herself in a jam after hitting FAMU's third batter of the inning with two outs. The sophomore hurler then walked, hit and walked the next three Rattlers allowing FAMU to pull ahead 2-1.
B-CU was unable to respond in the final two innings, as the No. 3 southern division Rattlers moved on to Championship Saturday sending the Wildcats into the elimination side of the bracket to face the winner of the Savannah State/Hampton game tonight (May 8) at 6 p.m.
Campos finished as the lone Wildcat with a multi-hit game, collecting two hits and one run during the setback.
Anguiano (17-24) threw all 7.0 innings for B-CUU allowing five hits, one earned run, two walks and striking out two Rattlers.
