ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – A second shutout game for Bethune-Cookman softball, lifted the Wildcats past the No. 1 northern division Delaware State Hornets 9-0 during the nightcap of the 2015 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship, May 7 in Ormond Beach, Florida.
After a scoreless first inning with the No. 1 seed from the north, the Wildcats opened up the scoring rally, plating nine runs over the next five innings.
B-CU went up 1-0 after two complete innings before a two-RBI stand-up triple from Shamaria Engram cleared the bases and helped push the Wildcats to a three run third inning and the 4-0 lead.
Solo runs in the fourth and fifth accompanied by a three run sixth inning, sealed the run-rule victory for B-CU after six at bats.
The Hornets gave it one last shot in the bottom of the sixth to keep the game alive before B-CU pitcher Sabrina Anguiano struck out DSU's final outs of the contest, capturing the 9-0 victory.
Engram led the Wildcat offense finishing two-for-three at the plate with two runs and three RBIs.
Anguiano three all six innings for B-CU allowing only four Hornet hits and striking out the final batter of the contest.
The Wildcats return to action tomorrow (May 8), as they take on the Florida A&M Rattlers in a 2014 Championship Game rematch at 1 p.m., in Ormond Beach.
