@BCUWBB Earns Third-Straight with Morgan State Win

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A career offensive night for this week's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Defensive Player of the Week, helped propel Bethune-Cookman women's basketball to its third-straight victory, as the Wildcats knocked off Morgan State, 63-48, Monday, Jan. 18 inside Historic Moore Gymnasium.

Junior Kailyn Williams (New Orleans, La.), who was named the league's defensive player of the week prior to the evening contest, poured in a career-best 22 points, while adding seven boards and blocking five Bear shots.

Morgan State jumped out to a quick 5-0 advantage to open the game, as the Bears saw their only lead of the contest dwindle away after Wildcat junior Taylor Houston (Raleigh, N.C.) sank a trey at the 4:59 mark, knotting the score at nine.

It was 19-13 at the end of the first quarter in favor of B-CU, as the Wildcats held a 13-to-4 rebounding advantage over the Bears.

Heading into the break, the Maroon and Gold pulled ahead 10, leading 35-25.

After the first 20-minutes, the Wildcats led on the glass 20-to-10, while also outshooting Morgan State from the field 52%-to-37%.

An even third stanza kept the score within ten in favor of B-CU (45-35).

It was all Wildcats during the final 10, after a Houston three-ball gave the home team their largest lead of the game at 17, with 34 seconds left on the game clock.

Morgan State's Passion Scott laid the ball in with 10 seconds left to play, as B-CU held onto the 63-48 victory.

Trailing Williams, Houston added 13 points and five boards, while rookie Angel Golden (Tampa, Fla.) collected 10 points and senior guard Jasmine Knowles (Romulus, Mich.) grabbed seven rebounds while dishing four assists.

Sophomore Tykyrah Williams led the Bears scoring 17 points off the bench, while Lexus Spears and Braennan Farrar each added eight.

The Wildcats move to 10-8 overall and 4-1 in league play, while knocking the Bears out of the top-spot in the MEAC as Morgan State fell to 6-12 overall and 4-2 in conference games.

Bethune-Cookman returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 23 as the Wildcats travel north to Princess Anne, Maryland facing Maryland Eastern Shore at 2 p.m.
