Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. – Diamante Lewis scored 23 points and Jordan Potts 20 in Bethune-Cookman's 70-68 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference loss at Howard Tuesday night.
The Bison (10-10 overall, 4-1 MEAC) scored the game's final 12 points, taking the lead on a Damon Collins lay-up with 43 seconds to play, then Tyler Stone added a free throw with 23 seconds left.
B-CU (6-15,3-4) had two chances to force overtime in the final seven seconds.
Howard erased an 18-point lead and took a 55-54 lead with nine minutes to play, but Potts scored 12 of the Wildcats' final 14 points as they went ahead 68-58 with 4:18 to play.
Randy Holmes finished with nine points, eight rebounds and three steals, while Ricky Johnson scored eight.
Howard's James Daniel III, the nation's leading scorer, led his team with 24 – four under his average. Collins and Stone added 14 and 13, respectively.
Lewis scored 16 points in a first half that saw Bethune-Cookman storm out to an early 30-12 lead.
The Wildcats return home to host Florida A&M Saturday at 4 p.m.
