QUEENS, N.Y. -- Quinton Forrest scored 12 points as Bethune-Cookman dropped its 2016-17 season opener with a 100-53 loss to St. John's Friday at Carnesecca Arena.
Federico Mussini scored 20 points and Marcus Lovett 19 as the Red Storm shot 62.3 percent from the field.
Brandon Tabb hit his first two three-pointers to give the Wildcats a 6-2 lead, and
Josue Salaam's three made it a 9-6 game.
The Red Storm scored the next six points to take the lead and built their advantage to 47-31 at halftime.
Bethune-Cookman went scoreless the opening five minutes of the second half, allowing St. John's to built its to 61-31.
Diamante Lewis scored 10 for Bethune-Cookman, while Tabb finished with nine.
The Wildcats return home to face Kennesaw State Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Ocean Center.
