@BCUSoftball Suffers Pair of Losses during Day Two

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – After a Saturday night game turned into an early Sunday morning showdown, the Bethune-Cookman softball team suffered a pair of setbacks during day two of the Mary Nutter Classic, falling to New Mexico (8-4) and Utah Valley (11-3) at the Big League Dreams Park.

Identical two-run opening innings for the designated visiting Wildcats was proven not enough for B-CU.

During game one the Wildcats outhit the Lobos 13-to-10, while the two Wildcat errors late in the contest allowed New Mexico to pull away late with the 8-4 victory.

Sabrina Anguiano (0-2) threw all six innings for the Wildcats allowing 10 hits, seven earned runs, while striking out five batters and walking four.

Offensively Annie Bakenhus and Kaitlin Alamprese each finished 3-for-4 at the plate while Alamprese added a triple for the Wildcats and fellow junior Bailey Conner went a perfect 3-for-3 at bat.

After a two-plus hour delay between games, the originally scheduled 7:30 p.m. PST game against Utah Valley did not officially begin until 9:40 p.m. PST.

B-CU jumped out to an early 2-0 lead again during game two while the Wildcats capitalized on three UVU errors during the contest.

The Wolverines out-hit B-CU during the nightcap, 14-to-3, while only one Wildcat run was earned compared to six from Utah Valley.

Bailey Conner opened on the mound for B-CU throwing an inning before Anguiano (0-3) added four more to her count.

After the night game continued on into the early morning, finishing just after 12 a.m. PST, the Wildcats return to action Sunday, Feb. 21 in a 2 p.m. PST match-up with UC Santa Barbara before a 4:30 p.m. PST game against Loyola Marymount finishes the B-CU first weekend in California.
