Box Score DELAND, Fla. – Jordan Potts scored 27 points, including a go-ahead 4-point play with 13 seconds left as Bethune-Cookman claimed a 96-94 instant classic overtime win over Stetson Monday night.
After giving the Wildcats their first lead in the overtime at 92-91, Potts sank four free throws after Stetson was called for an illegal screen and received a technical foul. The Hatters got a Grant Lozoya three-pointer at the buzzer to conclude the scoring.
Randy Holmes scored a career-high 19 points off the bench, and Mario Moody double-doubled with 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Wildcats (12-16) won their third game in a row – two road overtimes and 1-pointer – in seven days.
Stetson (9-21) held a lead that got as high as 13 for 32 minutes before two Ricky Johnson free throws made it 79-77 with 4:23 left. The Wildcats stretched their lead to 83-78 on a Holmes lay-up with 1:21 remaining.
Bethune-Cookman had a chance to clinch the game in regulation, but Stetson was able to force overtime on a Lozoya three-pointer with under a second remaining that made it 85-all.
The Hatters jumped out to a four-point lead in overtime before the Wildcats' rally.
Johnson and Diamante Lewis each finished with 11 points, and LaRon Smith had 10 as the Wildcats won for the third straight time after trailing by 10 points.
Derick Newton had 19 points and 11 rebounds for the Hatters.
Bethune-Cookman hosts North Carolina Central Saturday at 4 p.m.
