Box Score DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Jordan Potts scored 21 points, Ricky Johnson 15 and Mario Moody 10 as Bethune-Cookman fended off Savannah State 62-59 Tuesday night in Historic Moore Gym.
Potts' three-pointer with 1:32 remaining gave the Wildcats (8-15 overall, 5-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) a 56-54 lead, then Moody sank two free throws to make it 58-54.
The Tigers (7-13,3-6) closed to one point twice in the final 20 seconds, but Randy Holmes and Moody each made two free throws to keep the Wildcats ahead.
Johnson scored 11 consecutive points in a five-minute stretch as the teams exchanged the lead.
Potts, Moody and Johnson were a combined 15-15 from the line in the second half.
Bethune-Cookman used two Potts three-pointers and two Moody dunks to take an early 12-3 lead, but Savannah State came back to take four one-point leads before the Wildcats used a 6-2 run to take a 28-25 halftime lead.
LaRon Smith's stat line included six points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots. Moody had seven boards and five blocks.
Lenjo Kilo led Savannah State with 23, and Troyce Manassa added 14.
Bethune-Cookman hosts Delaware State Saturday.
