@BCUSoftball Drops MEAC Season Opener to SSU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Despite only being able to get in game one of the doubleheader due to adverse weather, Bethune-Cookman softball dropped its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) season opener during a 1-0 shutout to Savannah State Friday (March 25) at Sunnyland Park.

Both teams were unable to make anything happen through the first two innings before the Tiger's top of the lineup plated one run after a walk and double.

The Wildcats made a change on the mound after the run, swapping Sabrina Anguiano for Diedra Genera.

Bryanna Campos opened the bottom of the third with a single past short before a Wanda Darby sacrifice bunt moved Campos to second.

After taking third on a passed ball, Campos was caught at the plate when an Annie Bakenhus hit to shortstop was thrown home.

Neither team would score again for the final four innings as the Tigers collected the league play opening game 1-0 victory.

BCU's Mariah Davis and Iesha Waters collected the additional two hits for the Wildcats, totally three on the day compared to the Savannah State four.

Genera (3-7) suffered the BCU setback after going the first two innings, while Anguiano allowed two hits during her five innings and struck out three batters.

Game two of the afternoon came to a halt during the second inning due to heavy rain in the area.

The remainder of game two and game three will begining Saturday, March 26 with game two resuming at 11 a.m.
