DeLand, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman softball dropped a single run decision as the Wildcats fell 7-6 during a comeback effort to Fairfield on Sunday, March 6 during the final day of the Hatter Classic at the Patricia Wilson Field.
In the opening inning, B-CU scored two runs after an Iesha Water's hard hit to second was miss-handled and allowed Annie Bakenhus and Mariah Davis score taking the 2-0 lead.
During the bottom half of the first, the Stags racked up seven runs on seven hits taking an early 7-2 lead over the Wildcats.
The top of the second added two more B-CU runs after a Waters single up the middle with bases loaded scored Bryanna Campos and Baneknus, cutting the deficit to 8-4.
A scoreless third kept Fairfield on top, before a solo homer from Waters with two outs in the top of the fourth notched another Wildcat run.
Again in the fifth, a solo homer, this time from Kaitlin Alamprese, brought the game within one, before B-CU left one stranded, trailing 7-6.
The final inning and a half remained scoreless between both teams before the Stags held on top the 7-6 victory.
Sabrina Anguiano (0-10) started on the mound for the Wildcats allowing all Fairfield runs to score.
Bailey Conner came in to finish the first and completed the game for B-CU, giving up four hits, no run and striking out four batters.
The Wildcats return to the diamond on Wednesday, March 9 when Bethune-Cookman kicks off their home opener against George Mason in double-header action at Sunnyland Park.
