B-CU Softball Completes Series Sweep of NCCU

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Brianna Sanders drove in Iesha Waters on a two-out single in the bottom of the seventh to help Bethune-Cookman walk off with a 3-2 series sweeping victory over North Carolina Central on Sunday afternoon in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference softball action at Sunnyland Park.

Bethune-Cookman (11-26, 6-3 MEAC) used Waters to lead off the seventh with an infield single, then advanced to second on Melissa Berouty's bunt. After a fly out, Sanders drove a 1-2 pitch up the middle and Waters scored easily from the seventh.

The Wildcats scored in the first when Mariah Davis scampered home on a failed pickoff attempt at third, and in the second when Sophia Ortega came in on the second of four NCCU (3-34, 0-9 MEAC) errors in the game.

The Eagles tied the game in the fifth on a two-run throwing error – the only one of its kind charged to the Cats on the day.

Bethune-Cookman registered 10 hits by nine different batters.

Waters was the only Wildcats batter with multiple hits.

For the second consecutive day, junior right-hander Sabrina Anguiano picked up the win with a walk-free, complete-game effort. She struck out five and scattered nine hits as she improved to 5-12 on the season.

Prior to the game, Ortega, Berouty and Wanda Darby were recognized in Senior Day ceremonies.

B-CU will host FIU in a non-conference doubleheader Wednesday at 2 p.m.
