@BCUSoftball Spits DH, Wins Series at FAMU

TALLHASSEE, Fla. – After dropping game two of the series 11-2, Bethune-Cookman softball answered in the series finale with a 7-5 victory over Florida A&M Friday, April 29 at the FAMU Softball Complex.

Game One

Bethune-Cookman started off with a quick single run in the opening inning after Melissa Berouty used a RBI double to score Annie Bakenhus.

The Rattlers had an answer for B-CU in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs and taking the early 2-1 lead.

In the second FAMU's Nachelle Watson sent out a solo homer to push the Rattler lead to two.

Innings three and four went scoreless for both teams before the Wildcats were able to score Bryanna Campos off of a Mariah Davis double, bringing B-CU back within one.

FAMU's bats caught fire in the fifth after the Rattlers added eight runs on six hits including a walk off three-run homer from Amber Fullwood to force the run-rule victory for FAMU at 11-2.

Game Two

A back-and-forth battle during game three began after B-CU and FAMU each scored a run in the second, knotting the score at one.

B-CU scored in the second after Sophia Ortega took an extra base on a FAMU fielding error following Campos ground out.

With the 2-1 lead for B-CU, the Rattlers answered in the bottom of the fourth adding three runs on two hits and pulling ahead 4-2.

The Wildcats answered in the top half of the fifth with three runs of their own off of four hits including back-to-back RBI singles from Iesha Waters and Brianna Sanders.

FAMU tied the score once more in the bottom of the fifth, locking the score at five.

Davis used a two RBI single to push the Wildcats back on top, as BCU was able to hold onto the game-three 7-5 victory, winning the series.

Behtune-Cookman softball awaits its fate in the 2016 Mid-Eastern Atheltic Conference Tournament, held in Ormond Beach, Florida May 12-15.
