DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman softball adds ten to 2017 squad, head coach Laura Watten announced Friday, May 20.
A class of all true freshmen: Mara Brody, Destiny Enriquez, Kaiya Epps-Lee, Maiya Fudge, Ryan Jackson, Sasha Killings, Taylor Sherritt, Yvonne Siordia, Jacki Smith and A'yanna Wallace join the Wildcat's returning ten.
Brody (St. Petersburg, Fla./Lakewood H.S.), a three-time Pinellas County Athletic Conference (PCAC) All-Conference and All-Pinellas County honoree, played an essential role in Lakewood High School's first Regional playoff win in school history during her sophomore season. Brody also led the Spartans in RBI's and homers during her high school career with a .423 overall average at the plate. Off the field, she is a member of the National Honor Society, a Mac Williams Scholar and a Recipient of President Obama's Volunteer Service Award.
Enriquez (Norwalk, Calif./John Glenn H.S.), was a four-year letterwinner and team captain for the Eagles. She started in 12 games on the mound her senior season, with nine complete games and a 2.58 ERA.
Epps-Lee (Lancast, Calif./Paraclete H.S.), finished her senior regular-season with the Spirits' undefeated. She was an Alpha League Champion (2014, 2015), CIF Southern Section Division 5, Quarter Finalist (2014), CIF Southern Section Division 5, Champion (2015) and named to the LA Daily News 2015 H.S. Softball Player Watch List while at Paraclete. With the Stealth Fastpitch program she was the USAAI Tuscany Series Softball Tournament (Arezzo,Italy) Batting Champion with a .625 average (2015), PGF SoCal Qualifier (2015), USA Prep Fall Nationals, Tournament Champions (2014), USA Prep Fall Nationals, Home to Home Finalist - 11.28 seconds (2014) and a PGF Qualifier Salinas, Calif. (2014). Off the diamond, she was a four-year Honor Roll recipient with a 3.5 GPA.
Fudge (St. Petersburg, Fla./Admiral Farraguy Academy), was a three-year team captain and four-year starter for the BlueJackets. She was named a Pinella All-County team honorable mention (2014, 2015), two-year District Runner-Up and 2016 District Champion. During her seignior season her team went 18-3 overall with an 11-1 league record while wrapping up her high school career with a .367 batting average. Fudge also earned a varsity letter for volleyball, basketball and cheerleading. Off the field she is a National Honor Society member, a Public Affairs Officer, on the Regimental staff, a member of the Headmasters list and was awarded the Academic Achievement Ribbon, given to those who maintain a 3.75 GPA or higher while competing in a varsity sport.
Jackson (Chino Hills, Calif./Ayala H.S.), was named the 2011 USSSA World Series Tournament MVP, Defensive Freshmen of the Year and led the Clutch Up Softball Academy in homers during the 2014-15 season. Additionally, she was a 2x All-Leaguer on the track in the 100 meter, 200m, 4x100m, high jump and triple jump.
Killings (Puyallup, Wash./Rogers H.S.), finished her senior season at Rogers with a .341 average at the plate, collecting 15 hits on 44 at bats. She knocked in 20 RBIs, three doubles, five homers and wrapped up her finale season with the Rams with a .795 slugging percentage.
Sherritt (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs H.S.), earned a .603 batting average during her senior season at Burroughs, finishing her career .575 at the plate with 48 career doubles and five homeruns. She was a three-time All-Leaguer and named All-CIF (California Interscholastic Federation) twice.
Siordia (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta H.S.), earned four varsity letters at Vista Murrieta H.S. During her travel ball career she was a 2014-16U Finalist Boulder Independence in Boulder, Colo. (Corona Angels-Slye), placed Top-3 at the 2014-16U Premier Nationals in Huntington Beach, Calif. (Corona Angels-Slye), and placed top-20 at the 2015-16U Premier Nationals in Huntington Beach, Cailf. (Corona Angels-Slye).
Smith (Burlington, Wash./Burlington-Edison H.S.), was a four-year varsity letterwiner at Burlington-Edison High. During her rookie season, the Tigers finished second at the WIAA 2A State Tournament while she was named to the GSHL First Team All-League and First-Team Academic All-Conference. As a sophomore Smith was named NWC Second Team All-League and First Team All-County.
Wallace (Wesley Chapel, Fla./Wiregrass Ranch H.S.), recived two varsity letters at Wiregrass Ranch High School was playing travel ball with Team FLA 18U Gold.
