DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Shawntrez Davis scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to highlight the first game of the
Ryan Ridder era as the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (1-0) downed Johnson University (Fla.) (0-5) 108-66 in Historic Moore Gymnasium.
BCU dominated the entire game, gaining a vicious 42-point lead after Brandon
Tabb's three-pointer with 7:33 to play.
In the first half, the Wildcats jumped to an early 23-9 lead with more than 14
minutes remaining, and finished the half on top, BCU 53-38.
Johnson University shot only 4-15 from the three and 39.7% from the field;
meanwhile the Wildcats were red-hot, shooting 12-21 from behind the arc and
60.6% from the field.
Alongside Davis, four more B-CU players scored in double digits. Daytona Beach
native
Malik Maitland recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 assists;
Brandon Tabb scored 16,
Armani Collins added 14 (4-8 from three), and Jeffery
Altidort finished with 13.
The 12 assists for Maitland were the most by a Division 1 Wildcat, and the 108
points tied the most on an opening night since Nov. 13, 2015 vs. Trinity.
