THE STARTING FIVE
1 Transfer guard Malik Maitland wasted now time introducing himself to Wildcat nation when he etched his name in the record books on opening night. Maitland spread the ball well with 12 assists to tie the BCU Division 1 modern-era record of single-game assists
2 A pair of Wildcats produced double-doubles on opening night when Shawntrez Davis scored a game-high 24 points and collected 11 rebounds. Maitland produced 16 points and led the team with 12 assists
3 BCU shot 60.6% from the floor (40-66), and 57.1% from three (12-21) against the Suns. According to records, both stand as the third-best mark in their respective single-game categories in Wildcat annals.
4 The Wildcats eclipsed the century mark in the victory over Johnson, and in the process tied a program record. The 108 points dittoed a Nov. 8, 2015 performance against Trinity as the most scored in a season-opening contest.
5 With Friday's lid-lifting victory, Head Coach Ryan Ridder is now 5-0 in season openers after winning all four previously at Daytona State
BCU COACHING DEBUTS
Since the legendary Jack "Cy" McClairen ushered in the modern of Bethune-Cookman basketball in 1961, the Wildcats are 25-31 in season openers and 39-17 in home openers
PREVIOUSLY
Shawntrez Davis scored 24 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to highlight the first game of the Ryan Ridder era as the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats (1-0) downed Johnson University (Fla.) (0-5) 108-66 in Historic Moore Gymnasium.
CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF
BCU owns a record of 7-14 against teams from the state of Texas. The Wildcats won both meetings with Texas-Pan American before the school merged with UT-Brownsville to form UTRGV in 2015. In the last meeting, C.J. Reed spoiled the hosts with a 27-point performance in a 67-64 triumph at the South Padre Island Tournament on Nov. 28, 2009. BCU has never met UNT on the court.
