Four-Game @BCUHoops Road Swing Begins with Rematches

TAMPA, Fla. - Bethune-Cookman University (5-5) embarks on a four-game road trip spanning three states and chewing up a solid chunk of its 19,154 road mileage this season. The Wildcats play a pair of opponents from last season's docket in USF (4-6) and Kennesaw State (1-7) before venturing cross-country to play Washington and Washington State. In 2016, BCU squandered a 19-point lead on the road in what resulted in a 79-73 overtime setback at USF. Against KSU, Brandon Tabb sank two free throws in the final seconds for a 75-72 win at the Ocean Center.

1 Entering this week, Bethune-Cookman leads the MEAC in total rebounds (42.40), offensive rebounds (13.40), blocks (50), field-goal % defense (41.7). Amongst the NCAA, it is 12th in boards, 38th in blocks, and 111th in field-goal % defense 

2 Malik Maitland has put together back-to-back 20-point outputs. He scored a season-high 22 vs. Boston and led the Wildcats with 21 vs. Cal Poly. The guard has 11 assists and four steals as well during the span

3 Junior Shawntrez Davis ranks eighth nationally with six double-doubles, and three have come on the road

4 BCU is aiming for its fourth win over a non-D1 when the Wildcats square off with the Bulls. The last time BCU earned four non-conference D1 wins was in 2009 when BCU beat Longwood, UT Pan-Am., FGCU, and Long Island

5 BCU reached its fifth win of the season in Tuesday's 67-53 triumph over Cal Poly. In the home victory, BCU became the fastest Wildcat team to five wins since the 2009  squad. Last season, BCU achieved win number five on Feb. 6.

Malik Maitland scored 21 points as Bethune-Cookman defeated Cal Poly 67-53 Tuesday night on Coach Cy Court in Historic Moore Gym. Shawntrez Davis had 19 points and ten rebounds as the Wildcats (5-5) fended off a Mustang (4-6) rally to snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 4-1 at home this season.
 

Around the Sunshine State

The Nov. 30 victory at Swisher Gymnasium marked the start of three non-conf. road games against Division 1 opponents from the state of Florida. Last season, BCU fell on the road to JU, USF, and UCF. Prior to Topping JUm the last non-conference win against a D1 Florida school was Feb. 2, 2016; in a 96-94 home win vs. Stetson, and the last BCU road kill of a non-conf. D1 Sunshine state program came on Dec. 1, 2009; in a 67-59 triumph at FGCU.

Wildcats against the ASUN

BCU sports a record of 13-38 against current ASUN members. In 2016, the Wildcats knocked off Kennesaw State at home in the inaugural matchup. In its most frequent, BCU is 7-21 against Volusia-rival Stetson. BCU is 4-12 vs. JU, 0-4 vs. North Florida, and 1-1 vs. FGCU
