Davis Grabs Seventh Double-Double at KSU

KENNESAW, Ga. – Shawntrez Davis collected his Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference-leading seventh double-double but Bethune-Cookman dropped an 81-74 decision to Kennesaw State Saturday night at the KSU Convocation Center.

With 19 points and 10 rebounds, Davis was one of three Wildcats (5-7) in double-figures, joining Brandon Tabb's 14 and Isaiah Bailey's 13 points.

The second half featured an explosion of scoring, with the Owls (2-8) converting on half of their 24 shots, but more importantly a 24-36 showing at the free-throw line. BCU shot 40% in the half, but only shot 16 times at the stripe and made 12.

The contest was tight throughout, but the hosts held serve for 37:11 of the game's 40 minutes. Tyler Hooker was one of five KSU players to reach double-figures, and led all scorers with 23 points and went 11-18 in free-throw attempts.

BCU rallied from an early 11-4 deficit to grab a 14-13 lead on a Bailey jumper at 13:29, but the Owls went on a 7-0 run to take the lead for good. Malik Maitland took a stolen pass and converted an and-one opportunity with seconds remaining before halftime to cut the intermission deficit to 33-30.

Late in the second half, Bailey made a similar play to make it a 66-63 score with 4:21 to play, but KSU made 13 of its last 17 free throws to seal the game.

BCU continues its four-game road trip with a 10 p.m. ET start Tuesday, Dec. 19, at Washington.
