Wildcats Tripped Up by Providence, 3-0

Wildcats limited to one hit on the day

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Providence pitcher Christina Ramirez tossed a complete-game one-hitter on Sunday morning, limiting the Bethune-Cookman offense in a 3-0 setback for the Wildcats at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The game was a part of the Disney Diamond 9 Orange Blossom Classic.

Bethune-Cookman (1-9) was unable to get the offense going on Sunday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Providence struck for a run in the second inning off BCU starter Destiny Enriquez.

Following a walk to Nadia Kemp, shortstop Paige Mulry's double down the left field line scored the Providence (2-3) second baseman for the early 1-0 advantage.

The Friars added a pair of runs in the home-half of the fourth for the final 3-0 decision.

Mulry picked up her second RBI of the game with a sacrifice fly to left that allowed catcher Nicole Lundstrom to scamper home from third base. Lundstrom worked her way aboard to begin the inning with a four-pitch walk. Alison Abbatiello, the Providence designated hitter, later plated third baseman Vanessa Portillo for the 3-0 lead when she singled to right field.

Bethune-Cookman's lone hit of the game came by way of freshman second baseman Jacki Smith with a bunt single in the fifth inning.

In seven innings pitched, Providence starter Ramirez walked two and struck out five in claiming her second win of the weekend, running her record to 2-1 on the year. The loss went to BCU's Enriquez, dropping her to 0-6 on the campaign.

BCU is back in action February 23, traveling to the Mary Nutter Classic in Cathedral City, California. Once there, the Wildcats will face teams from LSU, Stanford, Texas, St. John's and Michigan, respectfully.
