DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kailey Richard and
Iesha Waters both homered and drove in three runs as Bethune-Cookman downed North Carolina A&T by a 9-2 count in the final game of a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference series Sunday at Sunnyland Park.
Yvonne Siordia also homered – her first collegiate yard shot – as Richard's two-run blast in the first and Siroda's in the second – both with two outs – gave Bethune-Cookman (13-26 overall, 4-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) an early 3-0 lead.
North Carolina A&T (10-21-1,2-4) closed to 3-2 in the fourth, but B-CU answered with four runs in the fifth on RBI singles from Waters, Richard,
Brianna Sanders and
Taylor Sherritt to pull away. Waters' two-run blast in the sixth concluded the scoring.
Leadoff hitter
Mariah Davis had two hits, along with Waters, Richard, Sanders and Sherritt.
Sabrina Anguiano got the win, while
Mariah Estrada threw three and one-third innings of scoreless relief.
The Wildcats return to action next Saturday with a conference series at North Carolina Central.
