@BCUsoftball Game Day: Florida A&M

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – It's Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M battling for the top seed at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament on the final week of league regular season play. Do we really need to type anything else?

The Rattlers and Wildcats face off in a critical three-game Southern Division series beginning with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Sunnyland Park. Sunday's noon finale also serves as Wildcat Senior Day.

Bottom line: Whoever wins the series is the No. 1 Southern Division seed at the MEAC tournament May 11-13 in Ormond Beach. Florida A&M (16-26-1 overall, 11-1 MEAC) currently leads Bethune-Cookman (20-27, 10-2) by a game.

The Wildcats have won their last seven league games since a rare home doubleheader sweeping by North Carolina A&T on April 1. Florida A&M opened a window for the Wildcats to take the No. 1 seed when it dropped its first conference loss in its series finale to previously winless Savannah State on April 18.

One of softball's premier rivalries, FAMU and B-CU have played on the final day of the MEAC  tournament the last two years and 13 times overall.

B-CU UPDATE: The Wildcats lead the MEAC with a team batting average of .306 and scoring (5.47 runs per game) as well as slugging percentage (.433) … Mariah Davis leads the MEAC in hits (59), runs scored (42) and triples (6) … Ryan Jackson has driven in a league-best 43 runs and also leads the league with 102 total bases; the freshman needs one more homer to tie Amber Jackson's single-season record of 14 and is still slightly ahead of Amber Jackson's slugging percentage mark of .820 with .829.

FAMU UPDATE: The Rattlers have lost their last two … Alexis Day leads the Rattlers with a .319 average while Toni Anderson has nine homers. Keny Pereira has logged 142.2 innings in the circle, striking out 124.

SENIORS: Four seniors – Kaitlin Alamprese, Sabrina Anguiano, Bryanna Campos and Bailey Conner will be honored in pre-game ceremonies Sunday.
