Box Score 2 DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman salvaged a split of Saturday's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference doubleheader with archrival Florida A&M and set the stage for Sunday's 12 p.m. series finale to determine the No. 1 seed from the Southern Division for the MEAC tournament.
Kailey Richards' two-out walk off RBI single scored
Mariah Davis gave the Wildcats (21-28 overall, 11-3 MEAC) a 6-5 night victory after Florida A&M (17-27-1, 12-2) won the opener 9-5 and rallied from a 5-0 deficit to tie the second game in the seventh.
Bethune-Cookman had jumped out to a five-run lead after two innings on the strength of
Brianna Sanders' solo home runs and the Wildcats parlaying six early Rattler errors into four unearned runs.
Davis and
Iesha Waters scored in the first to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
After Sanders' leadoff home run, Yvonne Siorda and
Jacki Smith plated to make it a 5-0 game.
Davis led off the seventh with an infield singles, then advanced to second on
Ryan Jackson's long flyout to left to set the state for Richard's game winner.
In the opener, Bethune-Cookman cut a 5-0 deficit to 5-2 when Davis tripled homed pinch runner
Sasha Killings and scored on
Annie Bakenhus' single, then 6-4 in the fourth on
Kaitlin Alamprese's 13
th career home run, a two-run that also scored Richard.
Jackson singled home Bakenhus in the fifth for the final Bethune-Cookman run in the opener.
Sunday is Senior Day, with Alamprese,
Sabrina Anguiano,
Bryanna Campos and
Bailey Conner being honored in pre-game ceremonies.Â
