PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Brandon Tabb made seven three-point shots en route to 28 points and Bethune-Cookman University prevailed in comeback fashion yet again, taking down Maryland Eastern Shore by an 89-84 score Monday night at the Hytche Center. The victory gve BCU (8-9, 3-0) its best start in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play since 2011, and was the first road win against UMES since 2012.
The Wildcats found themselves down nine with 5:34 remaining in the game before embarking on a 14-2 spurt to regain the lead for good on Tabb's made free throw following a three from the left wing.
Despite a 41-40 UMES (5-13, 1-2) lead at the break, BCU had the advantage for most of the first half, leading for 13:39. Its largest lead came off an
Isaiah Bailey jumper at 8:17 that gave BCU a 26-20 edge.
Free throws were critical in the game and BCU did not miss any of its 13 first half opportunities, and made 11 in the latter period. The Wildcats had four players score in double figures with Bailey (18),
Shawntrez Davis (10), and the second straight double-double for junior
Soufiyane Diakite (20,11 reb.)
The victory ended a four-game losing streak to the Hawks and gave BCU consecutive road wins for the first time since February 2016.
The Wildcats return home to host rival Florida A&M on Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. For tickets, visit the BCU Box Office or
