BCU to play at Wide World of Sports Complex

February 15, 2018

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman Softball will play its first games of the new campaign in the Central Florida area this weekend as the Wildcats travel to Lake Buena Vista for the annual Disney Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Invite at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. This is the second of back-to-back Florida tournaments for the Wildcats.

Coming off an impressive outing in the season opening FAU "First Pitch" Classic last weekend in Boca Raton, Bethune-Cookman (2-3) will play five games this weekend against opponents from a variety of regions across the nation.

The Wildcats open against LIU Brooklyn on Friday, Feb. 16, at 2:30 p.m. They will stay on the field immediately following with a game against Kennesaw State at 5 p.m.

On Saturday, BCU faces a familiar foe in Stetson (11 a.m.), followed by Quinnipiac (4 p.m.). It will be the first of two scheduled meetings between the Cats and Hatters on the year, with the two teams slated to play in DeLand on April 18. BCU will also travel to the Hatter Classic in DeLand on March 2-4.

The Maroon and Gold conclude the weekend Sunday against Northern Iowa (11:30 a.m.).

In the process, sophomore Ryan Jackson (Chino Hills, Calif.) was tabbed Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Co-Player of the Week, as the reigning 2017 MEAC Rookie and Player of the Year powered out three home runs in her first three official at-bats of the campaign. Freshman pitcher Victoria Guzman (San Jose, Calif.) was named MEAC Co-Pitcher and Rookie of the Week after posting 1.76 ERA and an even 1-1 record in the circle.
