BALTIMORE, Md. - Brandon Tabb netted a career-best 34 points and achieved over 1,000 in his career to lead Bethune-Cookman's 89-85 road win against Coppin State Saturday afternoon at the CSU Physical Education Center.
The Wildcats (15-12, 9-3) won for the fourth time this season when trailing at the half and pushed their winning streak to three games. The victory at CSU (5-23, 5-8) keeps BCU alive in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title race as it remains in a second-place tie with North Carolina A&T State.
The Wildcats turned a three-point halftime deficit to a 14-point lead at 81-67 on Jeff Atlidort's lay-up at 1:59 before the Eagles mounted a big rally. Lucian Brownlee made a lay-in and following a BCU turnover, Houston Smith fouled Chad Andrews-Fulton and Isaiah Bailey was whistled for a technical foul that allowed CSU four made free throws.
CSU made four consecutive three-pointers to pull within one at 86-85 with nine seconds remaining.Â
Lamar Morgan fouled Tabb following the in-bounds and the nation's third-best free throw shooter made his first, but misfired on the second. Soufiyane Diakite muscled his way into the pain for his game-high 12th rebound, and passed to Tabb who was fouled again.Â
This time, Tabb sank both and BCU hung on for the four-point victory.

Isaiah Bailey totaled his 18th-straight double-figure scoring game with 17 points and Shawntrez Davis had his 11th consecutive with 15 points. Altidort added nine and a team-high five assists.
Brownlee led Coppin with 25 points and was 7-12 from three. In total, the Eagles shot 15-43 from distance and 27-69 overall. BCU was 23-55 from the field and 36-46 at the charity stripe.
It was a tight contest at halftime as CSU led by a 43-40 score. Tabb led the Wildcats with 14 points at the break.Â
Despite an early 7-3 lead at 17:26, BCU saw the hosts sprint to a 10-0 run with two if CSU's nine first half three-pointers.Â
Andrews-Fulton's lay-in at 9:20 gave the Eagles their largest lead of 11 points at a 29-18 score before BCU responded with an 8-0 burst thanks to a three and and-one lay-in by Davis.Â
Tabb was fouled on a three-point attempt at 5:29 and made all three shots. His second gave him the 1,000-point milestone and became BCU's 30th 1,000-point scorer and the first since Ricky Johnson in 2016.
BCU ended the half on a 4-0 run with a Tabb runner and two Diakite free throws, but neither team netted a shot over the final 2:12.
The Wildcats remain in Baltimore to play MEAC preseason favorite Morgan State on Monday. Tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
