DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Armani Collins scored a career-high 27 points and
Isaiah Bailey triple-doubled with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists as Bethune-Cookman raced to a 121-92 victory in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference first-place battle Saturday evening.
The Wildcats posted their highest offensive total since a 128-76 win over Morris Brown in 1996, set a single-game record for assists (33) and their Division I rebounding record (59) and tied their single-game three-point field goal mark of 16 in a match-up of teams with 10-3 records in the conference. The other team, North Carolina A&T, played Florida A&M Saturday evening and plays Bethune-Cookman Monday.
Bailey, who nearly triple-doubled at Morgan State Monday, posted the third Wildcat recorded triple-double in program history and the first since Adrien Coleman against Webber in 2012.
Brandon Tabb scored 20 points,
Shawntrez Davis had 19 points and 11 rebounds, and Jeffrey Altidort 15 for Bethune-Cookman (17-12,11-3) won its fifth straight.
Bethune-Cookman made 15 of its first 18 shots as it stormed out to a 33-13 lead on an
Armani Collins three-pointer with 12:26 remaining and kept Savannah State at bay the rest of the way the first half.
The Tigers cut it to 47-39 on two Jahir Cabez free throws with 4:52 remaining, but Collins and Jeffrey Altidort combined for all of B-CU's points on an 13-3 run that made it 60-40 with 1:56 remaining.
Bethune-Cookman led by as many as 42 when Bailey's dunk made it 104-62 with 8:18 to play.
Alante Fenner led Savannah State (13-16,10-4) with 22 points, Ty'Lik Edwards followed with 20, Cabeza had 13 and Dexter McClanahan had 10.
