Amyre Tensley Named All-MEAC Bowler

Senior led Wildcats as team captain in 2017-18

March 20, 2018

NORFOLK, Va. – Bethune-Cookman's Amyre Tensley was selected as a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Third Team All-MEAC Bowling representative announced Tuesday afternoon by the league office in Norfolk, Virginia.

All awards were voted on by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors.

For the first time in her career, senior bowler Amyre Tensley, a native of Detroit, is receiving postseason accolades from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). In 2016, the Berkley High alum received a nod to the All-MEAC Academic Team for her service in the classroom. She was also honored a season ago to the Commissioner's All-Academic Team.

This season, Tensley has continued her progression on the lanes, serving as a team captain for the Wildcats in her final year with the Maroon and Gold.

She performed in all eight contests for the Wildcats during the 2017-18 campaign, leading the program with a 169.68 average. On three different occasions she registered a game-high performance of 203, the last coming in the Stormin' Ladyjack Classic hosted by Stephen F. Austin in Houston.

Tensley participated in all 54 Baker matches on the campaign, serving in a variety of areas for the squad from bridge to anchor.

Delaware State's Alexis Neuer was named MEAC Bowler of the Year, while Ana Olaya of North Carolina A&T collected Rookie of the Year accolades. Kayla Stamm of Delaware State was tabbed MEAC Coach of the Year.

Joining Neuer and Olaya on the All-MEAC First Team are Chelsey Merklinger of Delaware State, along with Alexandra Hernandez and Jacqueline Rhoda of Maryland Eastern Shore.

The 2018 MEAC Bowling Championships begin Friday, March 23 at the AMF Lanes in Chesapeake, Va. at 8:30 a.m. with the opening ceremony. In that ceremony, the First Team honorees, regular-season division champions, Bowler of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coach of the Year will be recognized.

Teams will compete in five traditional games to determine the seeding for day two action.

The championship concludes on Sunday, March 25 with the championship final at 12 p.m.
