DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman celebrated Senior Day with a sweep of Hofstra Wednesday as the men posted a 5-2 decision and the women a 6-1 triumph at City Island Tennis Center.
After David Ocampa,
Matea Roki and
Alejandra Vidal were honored in pre-match ceremonies, the Wildcat men (4-7) snapped a two-match losing streak while the Lady Wildcats (4-5) won their fifth straight.
MEN
Juan Navarro remained unbeaten in singles play with his Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference sixth victory to pace the Wildcats.
Victor Bravo and
Jose Plazas each won at both singles and doubles for Bethune-Cookman, which faces South Carolina State in a first-place battle for the MEAC South Saturday in Orangeburg, S.C.
WOMEN
After two narrow victories to secure the doubles points and quick victories from Roki and
Rehaana Butt gave the Lady Wildcats a 3-1 lead, B-CU and Hofstra had three matches in the third set.
Karen Romero clinched the match with her No. 4 singles win.
Phatsimo Ruele and Vidal added victories to finish the day.
Vidal moved to within two victories of the 100-win career mark with her two wins.
Bethune-Cookman hosts Southern Sunday.

BUTT GARNERS MEAC CO-ROOKIE HONORS
Bethune-Cookman's
Rehaana Butt and Howard's Nathalie Finch were named MEAC Co-Rookies of the Week.
The freshman from Palm Harbor, Fla. was key in Bethune-Cookman's 4-3 win over Northern Illinois, picking up a 6-3, 6-2 singles victory over Abigail Dekkingo at the No. 2 position – while also teaming with Roki for a 6-2 doubles win at No. 1 over Evelyn Youel and Maria Potsi.
It's her second straight honor and third of the season.
