DeBARY, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman junior
Yudika Rodriguez fired an 11-over par three-round total of 227 to lead the Wildcats to a ninth place finish in The Babs Steffens Invitational hosted by Stetson University at the DeBary Golf and Country Club. The two-day, 54-hole event took place Sunday and Monday.
Rodriguez, a junior from Salinas, Puerto Rico, opened with a 79, but bounced back quickly to card rounds of 2-over 74 in back-to-back days. She would finish with a 227 (+11) and tied for third on the final leaderboard.
Behind Rodriguez, it was senior
Mackenzie Butzer (77-77-77=231, +15) staying solid throughout the event with three consecutive rounds of 5-over 77 to allow herself to place tied for eighth on the final leaderboard.
Isabela Miravite (82-82-86=250, +34) finished tied for 49th for the Maroon and Gold. And it was
Samyra Lewis (78-90-88=256, +40) rounding out the scoring for the Wildcats as she finished 55th in the field. Lewis opened the tournament with a 6-over 78 for her best round.
As a team, Bethune-Cookman (316-323-325=964, +100) finished ninth in the tournament field of 12.
Saint Leo collected the team tournament win, defeating Seminole State (Fla.) by a single stroke.
Seminole State's Tuan-Yu Chiang (68-73-79=220, +4) matched Saint Leo's Amanda Jakobsson (77-74-69=220, +4) as the tournament co-champions as individual medalists.
The Bethune-Cookman women's golf team returns to action April 1-2, when the Wildcats compete in the annual Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate hosted by Appalachian State in Morganton, North Carolina.
