Another Title: Wildcats Win 2018 MEAC Showcase

Rodriguez leads BCU to another MEAC Showcase crown

April 21, 2018

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Bethune-Cookman's Yudika Rodriguez claimed the individual medalist award in helping the Bethune-Cookman women's golf team to the 2018 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Showcase title on Saturday afternoon at Crosswinds Golf Club. The three-round, two-day event was hosted by Savannah State.

Bethune-Cookman (316-300-306=922, +58) was able to come away with the Wildcats' seventh consecutive MEAC Showcase title.

Rodriguez, a junior from Salinas, Puerto Rico, claimed her second straight MEAC Showcase title on Saturday. She used rounds of 73, 77 and 68, respectfully, en route to the award. Her final round 4-under 68 was the lowest of any performer during the tournament. She would turn in a 2-over 218 for the event.

Behind Rodriguez was senior Mackenzie Butzer (82-71-73=226, +10), as the Chatham, Ontario native grabbed a second place finish on the final leaderboard. Butzer used a second round 1-under 71 to bounce back from an opening round 82, as she continues to battle through injury throughout the spring.

Isabela Miravite (80-78-77=235, +19), competing in her first MEAC Showcase for the Maroon and Gold, lowered her scorecard each round to finish fifth in the tournament field. Saturday's 5-over 77 represented her best outing for the three-round event.

The final BCU golfer was newcomer Samyra Lewis (81-74-88=243, +27) as she fired a second round 2-over 74 to allow her a ninth place finish overall.

North Carolina A&T finished second as a team, followed by host Savannah State in third. Delaware State was fourth, while Hampton was fifth and Maryland Eastern Shore was sixth, respectively.

Sofia Alvarez (North Carolina A&T) made her way onto the all-tournament team as she finished third overall. Joining her on the all-tournament team and finishing tied for third was Savannah State's Rachel Orme.

Bethune-Cookman will conclude the 2017-18 season at the PGA National Minority Championships in Port St. Lucie, Florida. The event takes place May 11-13, as the Wildcats will be looking to defend their title.
