DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman returns to Moore Gymnasium looking to snap one streak and end another when they host Delaware State Saturday and Maryland-Eastern Shore Monday in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action. Both tip off are slated for 2 p.m. starts.
The Lady Wildcats (8-7 overall, 1-2 MEAC) dropped both games of their Howard-Norfolk State swing, marking the first time since 2016 they've lost consecutive league games. That was the first year of BCU's current three-year run as MEAC regular season champions.
BCU has played its last six games away from Daytona Beach, going 1-4 in true road games and winning a neutral site affair. The Lady Wildcats are 5-0 at home this year.
Saturday's game will include a tribute to senior
Angel Golden, who scored her 1,000
th career point against North Florida on Dec. 15. Monday's game is part of a MLK Day matinee.
IF THE MEAC TOURNAMENT WERE TODAY: BCU would play either Coppin State or Delaware State in a Monday play-in game. The Lady Wildcats currently trail Howard and Maryland-Eastern Shore by 1 ½ games for a first-round bye.
BCU UPDATE: BCU's last three-game losing streak was the final three game of a December 2015 five-game tail spin … the last three-game losing league losing streak was in 2013, but here's the deal: those games weren't consecutive; they were December losses at Norfolk State and Hampton then a January loss at North Carolina A&T … In 2012, BCU lost its final three regular season conference games … Golden needs two 3FGs to surpass Keturah Newkirk's total of 201 on the all-time list; Golden is also second in the MEAC in scoring (see the Delaware State paragraph) and first in FT% (.837) …
Chasimmie Brown is second in FG% (.504).
DELAWARE STATE UPDATE: The Hornets (3-12,1-3) snapped an eight-game losing streak with a win over North Carolina Central. Leading the way is NaJai Pollard, atop the conference in scoring (22.7 ppg) and second in rebounding (10.6 rpg) … BCU has won the last three meetings.
MARYLAND-EASTERN SHORE UPDATE: The Hawks (7-10,3-1) had a four-game winning streak concluded by North Carolina A&T Monday. They'll face FAMU on Saturday. Ciani Byrom is averaging 16.1 ppg and Keyera Eaton 11.9.
