ORLANDO – Malik Maitland scored a season-high 23 points in Bethune-Cookman's 70-65 loss at UCF Wednesday night that concluded an eight-game road trip.
Cesar DeJesus scored 17 points as the Knights (9-2) erased a 13-point halftime deficit and handed the Wildcats (5-7) their fifth straight loss.
BCU capitalized on UCF foul trouble and went 5-9 from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes to take a 34-21 lead.
Consecutive three-pointers from
Joe French, Maitland and
Isaiah Bailey spurred the Wildcats to an early 15-4 lead.
UCF, which shot 64 percent from the field in the second half, took a 41-40 on Dazon Ingram's jumper with 12:35 left.
Maitland gave BCU leads of 42-41 and 45-43, but those would be the Wildcats' final leads of the night.
UCF led 66-57 before a
Wali Parks jumper and two three-pointers from Maitland on an 8-2 run closed it to 68-65.
Maitland, who finished with four three-pointers, Â also had six rebounds and five assists. Bailey finished with 16 first-half points, and
Justyn King had season highs of eight points and seven rebounds.
BCU hosts Marist Saturday at 1 p.m.
