Maitland Scores 23 In @BCUHoops' 70-65 UCF Setback

ORLANDO – Malik Maitland scored a season-high 23 points in Bethune-Cookman's 70-65 loss at UCF Wednesday night that concluded an eight-game road trip.

Cesar DeJesus scored 17 points as the Knights (9-2) erased a 13-point halftime deficit and handed the Wildcats (5-7) their fifth straight loss.

BCU capitalized on UCF foul trouble and went 5-9 from three-point range in the opening 20 minutes to take a 34-21 lead.

Consecutive three-pointers from Joe French, Maitland and Isaiah Bailey spurred the Wildcats to an early 15-4 lead.

UCF, which shot 64 percent from the field in the second half, took a 41-40 on Dazon Ingram's jumper with 12:35 left.

Maitland gave BCU leads of 42-41 and 45-43, but those would be the Wildcats' final leads of the night.

UCF led 66-57 before a Wali Parks jumper and two three-pointers from Maitland on an 8-2 run closed it to 68-65.

Maitland, who finished with four three-pointers,  also had six rebounds and five assists. Bailey finished with 16 first-half points, and Justyn King had season highs of eight points and seven rebounds.

BCU hosts Marist Saturday at 1 p.m.
