DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman begins February and a critical four-game home stand Saturday when the Lady Wildcats host North Carolina Central at 2 p.m. in Historic Moore Gym.
After facing NCCU, BCU (11-8 overall, 4-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) will take North Carolina A&T – currently atop the league – on Monday and then Norfolk State and Howard next weekend. BCU is battling those three squads for first-round byes at next month's conference tournament in Norfolk.
Saturday is also BCU's "Think Pink" game.
THE SCENARIO: BCU is currently tied with Howard for fourth place, but the Bison have the tiebreaker as of now due to their win three weeks. North Carolina A&T is 6-0 in league play, Maryland-Eastern Shore 7-1 and Norfolk State 6-1.
IF THE TOURNAMENT WERE TOMORROW: BCU would play either Delaware State or Florida A&M in the opening game Monday afternoon and would face Howard in the quarterfinals if the Lady Wildcats win.
THE GOLDEN AGE: Monday's 71-65 victory at Coppin State marked senior
Angel Golden's 74
th playing victory, giving her the most Division I wins for any BCU basketball player. The previous mark was 73 held by Stanley Elliott, a member of the 2011 MEAC regular season championship squad and participant in the 2012 MEAC championship game. Golden needs three more wins to become the undisputed winningest women's player since the program was reinstated in 1976. The team won 76 games from 1983-87, but records are inconclusive.
