DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.– Cletrell Pope posted his 17th double-double with 19 points, and teammate
Mark Gordon dropped 19 off the bench, but Bethune-Cookman fell to visiting Howard 79-73, Monday night at Historic Moore Gym.
BCU (11-14, 6-5) took an early 14-point lead with 7:48 in the first half on Gordon's first of five three-pointers, but HU (12-13, 6-4) slowly mounted a comeback on the heels of R.J. Cole's 32-point performance.
The Bison cut the deficit to a single point at the break, 38-37, after starting the game 0-12 from the field.
Shawntrez Davis secured his second double-double of the season with an 11/11 line, and
Armani Collins set a new season-best with 11 points.
Malik Maitland's five assists led the way for a team total of 19 on 24 made field goals. Pope had 12 rebounds with his 19 points, including five offensively.
BCU returns to the road to start three-straight starting on Feb. 16 at South Carolina State.
