DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --
Malik Maitland's 17 points led four Bethune-Cookman players in double figures as the Wildcats used a strong second half on both ends of the court for a key 69-53 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference victory Monday night in Historic Moore Gym.
Dondre Duffus scored 11 points, and
Shawntrez Davis and
Cletrell Pope 10 each for the Wildcats (10-13 overall, 5-4 MEAC) as they moved into a tie with North Carolina Central and Coppin State for fourth place in the conference standings.
Pope also posted 13 rebounds for his 15th double-double of the season and paced a defensive effort that limited the Aggies (11-11,6-2) to 25.8 shooting (8-31) from the field in the final 20 minutes.
Meanwhile, BCU was shooting 54.8 percent (17-31) from the field, including four three-pointers after making just one in the first half. Â
Armani Collins had three of those treys, finishing with nine points.
A Davis jumper with 9:06 remaining gave BCU a 46-44 advantage, one the Wildcats built to 53-45 on another Davis jumper with 6:31 left. Â The Aggies never got closer than five points after that.
Maitland also had seven assists and was 6-6 from the line.
Aaran Edmead had 14 for the Aggies, who saw a 25-14 first-half lead dwindle to 28-24 at the break.
BCU hosts Norfolk State Saturday at 4 p.m.
