DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A doubles points victory set the tone for Bethune-Cookman snapping a four-match losing streak Monday as the Wildcats downed Austin Peay 4-1 at City Island Tennis Center.
The tandems of
Victor Bravo/
Phillip Lynch and
Jose Plazas/
Juan Navarro helped BCU (2-4) take the doubles point for the first time this season. After that, Bravo, Castro and Plazas lost just a combined eight games as the Wildcats quickly dispatched the Governors (3-8).
"Today's match result was what we had been striving to accomplish," We need to consistently win the doubles point to put us in a better position going into singles. It was nice to see us dictating play and creating opportunities. If we continue on this path, our results will improve."
Navarro's match was stopped when play was suspended as he was one game away from improving to 4-0 on the season.
Both BCU teams are in action Wednesday at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, facing Norfolk State from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Northern Division.
