CARY, N.C. – Bethune-Cookman split a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Southern Division doubleheader with North Carolina Central Monday, taking a 10-0 run rule decision in the first game while dropping the second 7-2.
Game three of the series is scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday.
GAME ONE
Kaiya Epps-Lee drove in three runs and
Brianna Paysinger and
Sasha Killings two apiece as the Wildcats (16-26 overall, 7-1 MEAC) parlayed six walks, two hit batters and two Eagle (14-22,4-4) errors into five-run outbursts in the third in fourth.
After
Cheyenne Smith and Paysinger drove in runs via walks, Epps-Lee hit a two-run single, followed by a Killings grounder that produced another run.
Killings' RBI double highlighted a five-run fourth.
Quianah Mitchell, Smith, Paysinger and
Kayla Traylor each scored twice for BCU, who needed only four hits for the run-rule decision.
Alexis Bermudez threw a two-hit shutout for the victory, walking one and striking out four.
GAME TWO
A two-run Epps-Lee single gave BCU the lead in the third, but the Eagles responded with an Olivia grand slam in a five-run outburst in the bottom half of the inning.
Traylor and Smith each had two hits for the Wildcats.
Bermudez, who came to relieve
Destiny Enriquez in the third, absorbed the loss.
