Smith, Sanders Honored

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Kaira Cabato and Kayla Traylor each had three hits, but Bethune-Cookman saw its Senior Day and regular season finale spoiled as Florida A&M rallied for an 11-8 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference South Division decision Sunday at Sunnyland Park.

The Wildcats (22-28 overall, 13-2 MEAC) had already clinched the South Division's No. 1 seed at next month's conference tournament in Ormond Beach with the sweep of Saturday's doubleheader.

Cabato, a freshman, smacked her first career home run to help BCU take a 4-0 first inning lead, which would grow to 8-0 after the Wildcats plated four unearned runs in the third.

Florida A&M (22-25,13-2) got back in the game in the fourth as Seriah Brokenborough hit a grand slam to cap off a six-run outburst. After closing to 8-7, the Rattlers scored four in the seventh to take the lead.

Brianna Paysinger had two hits for BCU, including an RBI double.

Seniors Cheyenne Smith and Brianna Sanders were honored in pregame ceremonies. Sanders registered a double off the fence in the first.

NOTES: Traylor hit .700 (7-10) in the series; She had just two multiple-hit games coming in to the series, she now has five … Traylor hit .421 in MEAC play … Paysinger was .500 (5-10) with four RBI, her hitting streak is now nine games … Cabato was .444 (4-9) ..
