SHIP SHAPE: @BCUSoftball Advances To MEAC Championship Game

Killings, Robinson Lead BCU Over FAMU 5-4

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Carrington Robinson's first collegiate RBI came with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and lifted Bethune-Cookman to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Softball Tournament Championship game with a 5-4 victory over Florida A&M Friday at Ormond Beach Sports Complex.

The Wildcats (25-28) will play Florida A&M, who came back and defeated Howard 8-5 in the elimination bracket, at noon Saturday. If BCU loses that game, the "if necessary" game will take place around 3 p.m.

Robinson, whose seventh-inning RBI was disallowed after umpires ruled she stepped out of the batter's box, scored Sasha Killings, who had led off with a walk and advanced to second on Cheyenne Smith's fielder's choice.

In the fifth, Killings delivered a bases-loaded double to center and scored on Kaiya Epps-Lee's grounder to give BCU a 4-1 lead.

Florida A&M closed to 4-3 on Kimiya Watkins's two-run homer in the sixth and tied the game on an error in the seventh.

Smith finished 3-4, while Killings and Kayla Traylor each had two hits.  Destiny Enriquez came off the bench and got the victory, giving up just that one unearned run and three hits while striking out two.

Bethune-Cookman will be playing for its 10th MEAC championship overall and seventh under Head Coach Laura Watten as it tries to defend its 2018 title.

NOTES:Killings had been 0-3 in bases-loaded situations before Friday, the three RBI are her season high … BCU is now 16-16 vs. FAMU (11-9 under Watten) all-time in the tournament…Smith is now .545 (6-11) while Paysinger is .454 (5-11) in three tournament games.
