.@BCUSoftball Game Day: Disney Diamond 9

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Week two of the 2020 Softball season has Bethune-Cookman at the Disney Diamond 9 tournament beginning Friday afternoon.

The Wildcats (1-4) face Appalachian State and Lehigh Friday at 3:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., then play Saint Joseph's and Georgia Saturday at 12 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. the tournament concludes with another meeting with Appalachian State Sunday at 9 a.m.

BCU registered a 2-0 victory over Indiana State last weekend at the FAU First Pitch Classic while dropping two games to nationally ranked Wisconsin and setbacks to Northern Illinois and Purdue.

STORYLINES
--We see you, Samantha: JUCO product Samantha Kelley made a strong debut at second base, posting a team-high .364 average in five games last week. Kelley was a two-time all-conference performer at Broward College before transferring to BCU.
--These kids: Isabella Sandovall garnered Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Rookie Of The Week honors after going 5-16 with three doubles at the plate and throwing out two runners from behind the plate last week. Outfielder Haley Parks had two hits and scored a run  in the Indiana State win.  
--Cool Stat: Sophomore Carrington Robinson had five hits during her freshman season in 2019. She had four hits at FAU on opening weekend.
--Everything but a W: Okay, Victoria Guzman got the decision for the Indiana State victory, but let's give props to senior Destiny Enriquez: The senior threw a two-hitter in the season opener, a combined six innings of shutout relief against Purdue and Indiana State and had promising stretches against Wisconsin. She finished opening weekend with a 2.21 ERA.

SCOUTING REPORT: : Appalachian State (2-2) split with Virginia and Charlotte last weekend; Bayle Morton hit two homers and drove in 7 RBI … Lehigh is opening its season with 14 returners from a 27-28 campaign … Saint Joseph's is also opening its season after advancing to the Atlantic-10 championship game … Georgia Southern (4-1) opened with wins over Hartford, ETSU and Rutgers in its own tournament and then beat Mercer in a mid-week game.
