.@BCUWBB Clinches Share Of MEAC Title With 68-62 win over NSU

DAYTONA BEACH – Amaya Scott scored 18 points, and Ashanti Hunt was 10-10 from the line as Bethune-Cookman downed Norfolk State 68-62 to clinch a share of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular season title Monday night.
 
With their 13th straight victory, the Lady Wildcats (21-5 overall, 13-1 MEAC) lead the Spartans  (16-10,10-3) by  2 ½ games. BCU can clinch the title outright by beating North Carolina Central next Monday or Florida A&M March 5.
 
Hunt hit four straight free throws to give BCU a 62-59 lead with 2:02 left.
 
Norfolk State closed to 63-62 on La'Deja James' lay-up with 28 seconds left, but Hunt sank free throws on four of BCU's final five points to preserve the win.
 
BCU's defense limited the Spartans to 2-14 shooting from the field in the final ten minutes.
 
Trailing 42-32, BCU used a 19-6 run to take a 58-53 lead on Armani Walker's lay-up with 59 seconds remaining in the third quarter. Earlier, BCU took the lead on two Kiana Williams free throws that made it 47-46 with 3:03 left.
 
The Spartans erased a 55-49 BCU lead for a pair of one-point leads before Hunt's free throws and the Wildcat defense took over.
 
Ciara Thompson added 15 points and nine rebounds for BCU, while Hunt finished with 13. Walker and Williams each scored eight.
 
Chanette Hicks led the Spartans with 20.
 


NOTES: Scott was 8-12 from the field, marking the fourth straight time she's shot 60 percent or better ... Thompson reached double figures for the sixth time this season ... BCU finished February 8-0, its third undefeated month in the past four seasons,
