DELAND, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman's offense enjoyed its best day of the 2020 season as the Wildcats split their Stetson Invitational games Friday, dropping an 6-5 extra inning affair to Colgate before downing host Stetson 6-2 to end an 12-game losing streak.
Yvonne Siordia and
Kaiya Epps-Lee each drove in two as BCU (2-15) took a 3-0 lead, then scored three in the seventh after Stetson (6-10) closed to a run with a sixth-inning homer.
Epps-Lee doubled home
Sasha Killings and
Samantha Kelley then scored on
Elise Gibbs' single to give BCU a four-run cushion.
In the third, BCU took a 2-0 lead when
Jacki Smith singled home
Carrington Robinson and Siordia's sacrifice play plated
Haley Parks.
Smith scored on a Siordia single in the fifth to make it a 3-0 game.
Victoria Guzman picked up the win, striking out seven.
Against Colgate, BCU scored four runs in the sixth to take a 4-1 only to see Colgate answer with four runs to regain the lead. Parks scored on a seventh inning error to force extra innings, but Colgate got a walkoff double in the eighth.
Kelley had a two-run double for BCU, and Isabaella Sandoval and Epps-Lee added a RBI.
BCU plays Valparaiso Saturday at noon and Stetson again at 3 p.m.
