DELAND, Fla. – Bethune-Cookman concluded its Stetson Invitational schedule Sunday with an 8-0 victory over Colgate to finish the weekend 2-3.
Victoria Guzman threw a two-hit shutout and
Elise Gibbs' bases-loaded double triggered the run rule in the fifth as the Wildcats (3-17) finished the fourth weekend of the season with wins over Stetson and Colgate – two teams that beat the Wildcats in extra innings in their other matchups.
BCU jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead on an RBI single from
Samantha Kelley, a two-run
Yvonne Siordia double and a
Sasha Killings RBI double.
Gibbs and Killings each had two hits as BCU posted its second shutout of the season.
For the tournament, freshman
Haley Parks hit .471Â (8-17) while Quianah Mutchell was .375 (6-16). Kelley and
Kaiya Epps-Lee each had six RBI. Guzman appeared in all five games, compiling a 3.03 ERA with 14 strikeouts.
BCU hosts Sacred Heart in a double header Tuesday.
