DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Cletrell Pope put Bethune-Cookman ahead with two free throws with 52 seconds remaining, then Houston Smith added a free throw and then blocked Florida A&M's final shot as the Wildcats outlasted Florida A&M in overtime Thursday in Moore Gymnasium.

Pope finished with 20 points and 16 rebounds as the Wildcats (16-14 overall, 10-6 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) snapped a two-game losing streak to their archrival Rattlers (12-16,10-6) in the regular season finale for both teams.

FAMU hit consecutive three-pointers for a 70-67 lead with 2:05 left, but didn't score after that. A Malik Maitland jumper with 1:39 remaining cut BCU's deficit to one.

FAMU had a chance to win the game in regulation, but missed the second of two free throws with just under two seconds left.

Malik and Wali Parks each had 10 points for BCU, while Isaiah Bailey and Smith each added eight points and three rebounds.

Rod Melton led Florida A&M with 19.

BCU meets Morgan State in its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament opener Thursday in Norfolk, Va.
